AVON.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on the 12th instant. Present—Messrs j Burgess (Chairman), Dunlop, Homer, and Mclntyrc. Ao apology was accepted for i the absence Of MrNioholls. With reference to petition representing twenty-seven votes sent in to the St. Albans Borough Council praying to be annexed to that Borough, , petitions wero received representing sixtyeight votes ia the portion of No. 1 ward proposed to be annexed to tho St. Albans Borough praying the Governor not to assent to the proposed alteration. The Chairman stated that general satisfaction had been expressed with the arrangement by this Board and its action in watering the streets. He had it on good authority that the petition for annexation to be. Albans was circulated by the St. Albans Borough CouncU, which had done all it could to prejudice the Board in the eyes of the ratepayers. The rate in St. Albans Borough is j{d in the pound, the debit balance by last repoit was £700, while m the Avon Road District the rato ia |d, and at the present time the credit balance at the bank is £46. The petitions were ordered to be forwarded to the Governor if necessary. Letters were received from the City and Suburban Tram Company asking permission co lay a loop line near Craddock s corner. On the motion of Mr Molntyre permission was granted. From Mr Swan, re rates on Richmond Domain. P.esolved that as the land is let the rates must be paid. From Mr Clustan, asking for remiosion of rates on Papanui Public Library. Resolved that the Board cannot remit the ratos. Applications for removal of names from roil were received from Messrs Bingham, King, Percival, Foot, Brown, Swift, Cooke, and Wright, and were agreed to on certain conditions being complied with, and all rates being paid. ♦Fiom Mr Jos. Palmer, expressing the grateful thanks of himself and other residents of Papauui road to the Boaril for watering Papanui road. Lists of outstanding rates to bo submitted to Mr Joynt, and such action taken as he may advise. Resolved that a gas lamp be erected opposite the end of Tooms' road. The finance report showed receipts £607 ss, expenditure £509 7s 7d, outstanding road rate £676 10s lid. The Board ordered advertisements to be .inserted iv both morniug papers that rates unpaid on March Ist will be sued for, and the meeting terminated.
