ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Mrs McLennon, of Papanui, met with a serious accident in Cathedral square. ' She entered the Sumner tram which lett at 8.35 p.tn. yesterday, instead of that for Papanui. Upon discovering the miatase she attempted to alight when the train was in motion, lost her footing, and was thrown under the car, which passed over her right leg and left foot. Toe latter waa badly cut, and the lower part of the former crushed almost to a pulp. Mrs McLennon was carried into the porch of the Cathedral and examined by Dr. Aleares, who had been called. He ordered her removal to the Hospital, whither she was taken on the Fire Brigade stretcher by Messrs E. Smith, Fuller aud McMillan. It was found at the Hospital that she had also suffered a severe shock to the system, and that whatever operation might prove necessary conld not be undertaken until she had somewhat recovered. . (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) MASTERTON, January 27. Duiing a thunderstorm yesterday aftsrnoon Mr B. Carman, a prominent farmer, and his son were engaged in watching a stack at Tarahiti, when the lightning struck the elder Carman, tearing his hat to ribbons and killinsr him instantly. The son was rendered unconscious, but has since iecovered.
