RICHMOND AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The first annual general meeting of the above Club was held in the schoolroom, on Saturday evening. There was a fair attendance, the President (Mr R, C. Bishop) being in the chair. Mr J. Abercrombie (Vice-President) was among those present. The Hon. Secretary (Mr G«o. Milne) read the annual report, which congratulated the Club on the very satisfactory result of the first year's work. The Club was inaugurated on February 10th last. At a meeting of the Committee, held oo February 17th, seventy members were enrolled, the number on the roll at the present time being ninetyfive. Owing to the lateness of the season the Committee decided not to hold an ', aquatic gathering, but hoped that the incoming Committee would consider the advisableness of holding more than one aquatic gathering during the ensuing season. : Two fifty yards and one twenty-five yards were held in the bath, the racing being very ; close and interesting. In the first heat of I the second fifty yards handicap, held on > March 17th, only three inches separated the three placed men. In this race Mr J. G. Daley swam the fifty yards in the exceedingly good time of 56sec With a view to allowing members to compete with members of kindred Clubs, it was decided to affiliate to the New Zealand Amateur Swimmiug Association, and Mr E. Reynolds, the amateur champion cyclist of Auckland, was unanimously elected as the Club's delegate. With regard to transferring the headquarters of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association from Auckland to Christchurch, the Committee passed, a resolution in favor of the removal of the head-quarters to this city after the visit of the New South Wales swimmers to Auckland next year. The Committee desired to heartily thank Mr R. C. Bishop (President) and Mr E. Hiorns (Vice-President) for donations towards the prize fund; Messrs W. B. Eyre, E. W. Roper, and S. Miles for officiating as starters and timekeepers at the Club's races. The balance-sheet showed the receipts to have amounted to £9 93, and the expenditure to £5 4s 9£d, leaving a creait balance of £4 4s 2£d. The Chairman", in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the Club on its sound financial position. He thought the Club had reason to be proud of its officers for the manner in •which they had worked during the past year. Mr J. Abercrombie, Vice-Presidenfc, seconded the motion, and also congratulated the Club on its high position. The.motion was carried unanimously. Mr R. C. Bishop was unanimously reelected President for the ensuing year. The other officers were elected as follows:—VicePresidents, Messrs E. Hiorns, Eden George, S. K. Baasett, J. Abercrombie, C. S. Howard, and the Rev. W. A. Pascoe; Captain, Mr F. J. Craddock (re-elected); Deputy Captain, Mr Harry Thompson (re-elected) j Hon. Secretary, Mr George Milne (re-elected); Hon. TreaBurpr, Mr C. J. Styche (re-elected); Committee—Messrs H. Craddock, W. Baaaett, F. Ward, C. P. Bradford and A. P. Gibson; Auditors, Messrs F. W. Dunnage, and A. E. Ridley. The Hon. Secretary read a letter from Mr E. Reynolds, Anckland, agreeing to act as the Club's delegate to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, and stating that he would do all in his power to further the interests of the Club. Mr Reynolds was * unanimously elected an honorary member of the Club.

A letter was read from Mr T. S. Mortlock, Hon. Sec. of the Canterbury Athletic Clubs' Protection Association, asking the Club to consider the adviaableness of joining the Association. It was resolved to join the Association, and Mr C. J. Styche was appointed the Club's delegate. On the motion of Mr G. Milne a> hearty vote of thanks was passed to the President and Vice-Presidents. Mr Bishop in returning thanks to the members for re-electing him President, gave a donation of £2 2s towards the Club's funds, and moved a hearty vote of thanks to the executive officers. Mr Abercrombie seconded the motion, which was carried. The meeting then closed.
