SHOP HOURS BILL AND MR W. P. REEVES' CONSISTENCY.

TO THE EDITOB OF THE PKBSS. Sib, —Mr W. P. Reeves is attempting to force the Shop Houre Bill on the community ; who have never asked for it; in fact, the only people who want such a Bill are a few :of the shop assistants. Have not the farm ears again and again at the different country ' saleyards protested against such a measure, and that, too, unsolicited by the shopkeepers ? Mr Earnshaw is about right when he s«ys the small shopkeepers will have to go to the wall. Now, Sir, just see how consistent Mr Reeves is. He would compel mc to close my shop against the wish of myself and a very large majority of the community, for whose ■ convenience I exist, without any appeal to I the people .on the question. He would do : this of his own motion. But on the quea- ; tion of direct veto Mr Reeves insists on a three-fifths majority. It appears to mc Mr Reeves must have a very bad opinion of j shopkeepers, especially small ones, or he I would not be so, anxious to wipe them out of existence. But, sir, I think the hoo. J gentleman has over-reached himself this time, and instead of wiping the small shopkeepers out, the ■ shopkeepers will wipe the Hon. W. P. Reeves out at the next election. &c, ' -; Shopkeeper.
