The Engineer, in his report, stated that Messrs Owles Bros, had abandoned the work of clearing the River Avon and Horse Shoe Lake. Notice had been given to them on December 17th to put on extra hands to overtake the work in arrear, and this had been-disregarded.; This being a wilful breach of the contract, he would advise the Board to take action under section 12 of the General Condition of Contract. He also referred to a number of piles which had been driven in the river at New Brighton, for the purpose of mooring boats, by Mr d Cortis. Mr H. Crooks moved that the contract be re-let in terms in accordance with the solicitor's letter. This was agreed to. In reference to the piles driven in the river, it was agreed to consult the Harbour Board on the matter.

Correspondence was received— ' From Minister of Public Works, re connecting Government Buildings with < the sewer. It was resolved to abide by the Board's solicitors' opinion in the matter. From the City Council, re the cost of repairing the roads after the connection had been made with the sewers.
