THE WEATHER AND THE CROPS.
In the Geraldine district on Sunday evening there was a splendid fall of raiu of several hours' duration. Yesterday morning was warm and sunny, followed by a drying wind in the afternoon. Although the wet will retard harvest operations fox a short time, it will do the ; cereals no barm, being followed, as it was, by a dry day. For turnips and grass the weather could scarcely Bβ equalled, andfarmers are delighted at tho excellent pros* pects of plenty of winter feed. ■ Ac Temuka very heavy rain fell on Sunday night and continued until abcut four o'clock on Monday morning. Harvest operations are quite suspended, and there appears a prospect of another downpour. Now that harvest is general the rain is scarcely so welcome as it was a week or two ago.
