ALLEGED THEFT OF GOLD.

(PBESS ASSOCIATION TKLBQBAU.) r . KEEFTON, January 25. The charge of stealing gold preferred against William Duffy and Eobert Hughes by George Wise, manager of the Caledonian Quartzmining Company was heard yesterday* and the accused were committed for trial. The evidence showed that the battery was burnt down on Saturday, the 17th inst., and that the debris under the stamper boxes and tables had been scraped up to the solid bottom and removed. It was traced along the track to Potter's Creek and a heap of the stuff was discovered there. Signs of washing up and globules of quicksilver and amalgam were found in the hut occupied by the accused.
