TEA TRADE.

No person can form an idea of the extensive trade carried on by the wellknown firm of Nelson, Moate, and Co., unless they visit the Albert bond, on the South belt, and see for themselves the enormous stacks of tea piled up there tier on tier. The bond is brick-built, and was formerly used as a grain store by Mr C. W. Turner, and in this bond the firm have some 12,000 chests of tea, packed six deep from floor to on the. two lower stories, whilst the top floor is being prepared for 2000 or 3000 chests more. The whole is so arranged as to admit of the several brands of India. China, and Ceylon teas to be easily distinguishable and taken as required for blending and packing at the wholesale warehouse in Colombo street, through which the whole of the tea passes before distribution. As this firm do not grow their own tea, and have no special interest in pushing forward any particular district, it enables them to Import the choicest (growths of all markets, and hence the uniform standard of perfection of their blended teas. As a proof of the appreciation of the Eublic of their celebrated blends, it may c mentioned tbat Messrs Nelson, Moate, and Co. paid nearly one-fourth of the whole amount realised by the duty on tea during the last financial year.
