AUCKLAND, March 20. At a largely attended meeting of the Ohiaemuri agricultural leaseholders* a petition to the Government waa drawn up, praying that the settlers might be granted the freeholds of their sections, large same having been paid in rent. The Auckland University College have issued a circular to school committees and teachers of the Auckland education die trict stating that they intend, with the permission of the Board of Education, to offer prizes for agricultural science in primary schools, the competition to be open for scholars of the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Standards.

News comes from Tahiti that the Council of Papeete has approved of, and will subsidise a regular line of mail steamers between Tahiti, the Samoan Islands, New Caledonia and Auckland, connecting at the latter port with the service to San Francisco.
