CRICKET.

The efforts of the Senior Match Committee to arrange a match for to-day, Twelve v Eighteen, have fallen through, owing to a sufficient number of players not being available. A match has been arranged, to commence at 11 a.m. sharp at Hagley Park, between the following teams :—The Eleven, captained by Barnes, will be composed as follows:—Barnes, Cotterill, Curtain, DeMaus, Garty, HassalL W. Ogier, Rayner, Reese, Richards and Salmon, against a Twelve, captained by Ashby, as follows :—Ashby, Cohen, Cuff, W. Forsyth, W. Frith, Garrard, Hill, Jack, J. Marshall, Northcroft, H. Ogier and Treweek.

A cricket match was played at Prebbleton'on December 29th between thePrebbleton and HalsweU Club. The visitors, losing the toss, went to the wickets, but made no stand against the really good bowling of E. and C. Prebble, wicket falling for 24. The home team going In rattled up 86, of which extras claimed 20, while N. Prebble played carefully for 19, H. and C. Prebble being the other double figures with 10 and 12 respectively. Tipping and Lewis did all the bowling, the latter being lucky in having four catches held off his bowling, while Tipping fielded well, bringing off four catches. Halswell in their second innings could only equal their previous . score, Rathgen and Tipping alone doing anything against the former bowlers. The pitch was exceedingly rough and fiery, and as the bowling was fast, at the conclusion of the- game the players looked, and felt, like participators in a rough game of iootball rather than a friendly game of cricket. Scores—Prebbleton 86, Halswell 24 and 24.

Oa Saturd\y a match was played a fc Kaiapoi between the local Club and mem* bers of the Wesleyah Society at Sydenham. The first of the Kaiapoi Club to face the bowling were dismissed for mere trifles. Haynes and Pearce made a stand and, with extras, made up a score of 91. In both their innings the visitors wore unable to get hold of the bowling of Uru, who took eight of the wickets in the first innings for one run only. Although Uru was hardly recovered in his legs from the bicycle, accident which befel him a week since, yet, by taking off his waistcoat, slippers, and hat in a .very methodical way each time his turn came to bowl, he was still able to deliver the ball with much precision and force, sending the stumps fairly flying. Uru, when batting, broke another new bat.; Any bat maker, who wants a recommendation for strong bats ought to give Uru a trial and get his testimonial. Thefollowing are the scores;--
