A LOVER SHOT IN MISTAKE FOR A BURGLAR.
A singular case occupied the attention of the Menai Bridge magistrates on 11th October. A young gentleman living at Plass Glen, Llanddamel, was charged with shooting a servant man, named Owen. The prosecutor said that late on the night of the 23rd of September he went to Plas Glen, accompanied by two men named Jones and Williamß. Williams and Jones stood in the road, and the witness went up to the house and threw atones at the servants' window. The stones struck the window three times. Hearing some one coming ont of the house, he ran down the garden - path, but before < he could reach the door he was twice shot. He bled profusely, and after- ; wards thirty-two shots were found in various parts of his body. Counsel for the defendant asked—What were you doing at Plas Glen ? The witness—We were going there to " strike"; that is, knock up female servants. Mr Arthur W. Jones, the defendant, was called, and stated that, hearing noises at the kitchen window as if burglars were at work, he took his doublebarrelled gun and ran downstairs. He heard someone running away, and fired both barrels in the direction taken. He afterwards heard that he had shot Owen. The magistrates, expressing the opinion that no jury would convict under such circumstances, dismissed the case.
