The monthly meeting of this Board was held on December 6th. Present—Messrs Evans (Chairman ), Bailey, Denton and Smith. The Surveyor's report was readland adopted Letters were read— From the Secretary for Public Works, stating that Mr Whitefoord, S.fif., had been appointed to apportion the cost for the maintenance of White s bridge Ibetween the local bodies concerned. Mr Denton proposed and Mr Bailey seconded, "That the Chairman, Mr Bicbard Evans, be appointed to represent this Board st tbe Court for tbe consideration of tbe dost to be borne for the maintenance of White's bridge. Selwyn Ooanty Council, acknowledging this Board's letter of October Sth relative to the state of White's bridge, stating the bridge was not under the control of the Belwyn County Conncil, and the Council does net recognise a'Dy liability. Messrs Oarrlck and Cowhehsw, re Barker's road bridge. Besolved that tbe bridge be again erected Bft wide, as formerl -. W. H. Bpackmas, on behalf of Mr James Barker, ia refereace to rebuilding ths bridge. Messrs Bolter and Swans, enclosing account for preparing Armstrong's lease, which was ordered to be paid, and tbe amount recovered from Armstrong, j. Burnett, Bailway Engineer, stating that after inspecting the- culvert at Mandeville he could not recommend that the culvert at Mandeville should be enlarged uutQ the outlet through, the cemetery and ad joining lands be cleaned out. Mr Bailey pro* posed* and Mr Smith seconded—"The Clerk write and inform Mr Burnett the culvert must be en* Urged, as it is incapable of taking the water which ought to cross the road at this point." Carried. Mr James Barker, warning tbe Board against building the new bridge across Barker's road wider than the original water way. The i lerk was ordered to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Barker's letter, and request him to state what was tbe width of the water way of the bridge washed away. Mrs Julia Murphy, requesting , that her> rates > be deducted from ber claim for work done at the Eyre bank, and the-balance forwarded, ttesolved that the Board see no reason-to alter their former decision. Carried. Mr Blkin waited on the Board to request that his rent for the reserve at tbe girder bridge be reduced and was informed the Board oould not aooode to his request. Messrs Elder and Burgees waited on the Board in reference te widening the Eyre outlet, an* was informed that it was intended to let a contract to lengthen the present outlet. Mr Martin requested the Board not to do any work on eithor IBarrs or No. 10 road, on aocount of the Hood water, and stated his reasens. aad was informed that when the matter was oonaidered hia remarks would bo borne in mind. Mr Heyward requested the Board to put in a pipe under the bottom of the culvert on wyatt s road, and deepen the creek so as to give him drainage for his land. Mr Bailey proposed and Mr Beaton seoonded—"That Mr Heywood be allowed to de what was necessary to obtain tho amount required provided the work was done at his own S5 pen s? , u alld V* tho •PPWsI of the Surveyor. Mr Michael Lynsker requested the Bo ird to deepen Inglefleld creek through hia land, which was under agreement. Mr Bailey proposed, and Mr Smith seconded—"That five pounds be granted In aid of the work on the understanding that the existing agreement be net interfered with." Carried. Mr Denton proposed, and Mr Smith seconded—" That the question of drainage along the western bonndary ot the town of Kaiapoi be deferred for the present tor want ot funds." Carried. Mr Denton proposed, and Mr Smith seoonded —"That the fee for registration of dogs for 1887 and 1888 be 10s as usual." Carried. The Registrar of Dogs waa Instructed to direct the polioa to prosecute all owners of unresisted dogs at one*. Tenders waa ordered to be invited tor the following works ■—For the formation of the Ho. 10 road ; to widen Wood's road drain for about twenty.flve chains on condition that tho owners ot the land fronting same sign the usual agreement to clean the same in future i to rent reserves in accordance with the conditions as read. The Surveyor was directed to have Harris' road formation done from Marshall's gate to Driscol's road. Aooounts amounting to £253 5s 3d were passed for payment.
