RICCARTON.
The ordinary meeting, of thia Board was held on Monday at the oSce. Fendalton. Present—Messrs HaU (Chairman), Nanwick,' Stanley, and Boag. Mr Greer waited on the Board in reference to the drainage of his property, and asked for a, oulvert across the road in a line with the drain recently ont by him to the creek. It was resolved to comply with Mr Greer s request oh hia undertaking to i maintain the drain. The foUowing oorrespondencs ! waS read:—A ratepayer at Addington, requesting the Board to remit her rates, as she was compelled to obtain relief from the Charitable Aid Board. Ihe Collector having' reported on the case, it waa resolved to remit the rate, and recommend tbe Drainage Board also. From the Clerk to the Waimakariri Biver Board, requesting that the amount of rates desired to be remitted, and the name of the defaulters be submitted annually, or the Board cannot undertake to remit them. It was resolved to comply . with the request. From Mr Haslam, reminding the Board of the promise made to shingle the road past his house. The Surveyor stated the work was new in progress. Foom Mr a. Wright; asking upon what terms the Board wUI aoc'ept the continuance of Wright's road, HiUmorton. It was resolved to reply that, on the road being dedicated to the publio and formed to the Board's satisfaction free of cost, it will be accepted. From Mr Adams, calling attention to the wont of better drainage in his locality. Beferred to the Surveyor. From Mr Cuddoa, in reference to the condition of tbe bridge near the malthouse at Fendalton. The Board directed the Surveyor to examine the bridge and carry ont such repairs as may be necessary. From the Secretary Charitable Aid Board, in reply, giving the amount of assistance granted to recipients of charitable aid in this district, and acknowledging receipt of map. From Mr Austin, Distriot Engineer, offer-, ing broken metal at the Christchurch Station. The Surveyor produced a sample of the stoned and after dne consideration the Board deoided to decline the offer at the price quoted, aa tne'cost of cartage would be too great. From the Clerk to the Selwyn County Council, stating that the grant for the suppression of the small birds nuisance wonld be renewed oa tbe some conditions as last year, viz., £ tor A up to £10 on the amounts expended br the Bead Boards. The Board approved of the resolution of the Council, and it was resolved to vote a sum of £10, in accordance therewith, and that the Clerk purchase eggs and heads" at tbe following rate, viz.:—Bmall birds' heads, 3d per dozen; eggs, 2d per dozen; blackbirds'heads, 2d each; and that collectors of euch he warned against destroying starlings. From the Bailway Engineer, stating that the railway culvert at Craw's may be enlarged by the Government at the expense of this Board or the land owners interested. It was resolved to reply that this Board declines tbe offer, as the culvert as mode by the Government was never sufficiently large. From tiie County Clerk, stating tbat the Council will be glad to receive a cheque for the amount due by this district for charitable aid. It was resolved to forward the cheque on receipt of the Government subsidy. From the Colonial Treasurer, forwarding a precis ot tbe Local Bodies Loan Act, 1886. From the Town Clerk, Sydenham, forwarding accounts for concrete (channelling and kerb on Lincoln road, and for maintenance o same road for six months. It was resolved to forward a cheque in full for th* maintenance, and on account for the concrete channelling, as the work was not quite completed. The Surveyor's report was read and approved, and the following resolutions were carried:—That
occupiers of land fronting tbe Waimakariri waterrace be cautioned against laying pipes across roads without the permission of the Board. That the drainage of Hands' road be carried out as per report. That the Surveyor bring vp 1 a report at next meeting on all roods necessary to be gravelled before winter, with a view of advertising for tenders. The Collector brought np a report on tbe amount of rotes outstanding, and stated that! as
directed he bad gives public notice that all rates I not paid on the Ist December would be sued for. I The Board having considered the report, it was ] resolved that immediate legal proceedings be token for the recovery of all outstanding rates. Accounts having been passed, the Board resolved itself into a Board of Heath. Present— Messrs Han (Chairman), Boag, Kunweek and Stanley. The Inspector's report on the piggeries at the slaughter yards of Messrs Langdon and Judge was read and approved. A letter was read from Mr W. B. Percivai, ia reply, stating that be bad, cnt a drain along tbe boundary of his section so aa to drain the stagnant water from the premises on the Harewood road. It was resolved to call Mr Porter's attention to tbe Board's letter of the 18th ult., in reference to his piggeries; at Fendalton, and to state that the nuisance complained of still exists, and if not removed at once legal proceedings will betaken. Tbe Board then adjourned.
