PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS.
8 9- » ST. ALBANS MAIN SCHOOL. The annual distribution ot prizes in con- } nection with this school took place on Wednesday. The first and second standards received their prizes in the afternoon, and every child in the infant 1 department was presented with a book or picture. Saveral action songs were sung ■ very nicely, the motions being particularly good, thereby reflecting? great credit on their teacher, Mrs Campbell. In the evening a large number of parents and friends assembled in the main room, which had \ been beautifully decorated with flowers, mottoes, and evergreens by the teachers and scholars, under the superintendence of Miss Smith. Most of the members of the Committee were present, Mr T. Gordon, the Chairman, presiding. The prizes, both numerous and valuable, were arranged on tables on a platform erected for the purpose. Noticeable was a beautiful work-basket, the first prize for sewing, gained by Iliza Newell. Standard IV, Upper—Fred Allen 1, Basil Jordan 2, Annie Bush 3, w Jackman 4; sewing, Annie Bosh 1, Annie Duggan 2. Lower—Charles Goode 1, Tom Harris and Annie Stevenson equal 2. Standard 111, A— Charles Pearson 1, Bella Bilton 2, Fanny Morrow 3; sewing, Gerty Barker 1. Lizzie >>llsopp 2. Science—Eliza Newell 1, Alt Bowbyes 2, Fred Allen and Annie Hirst equal 3. Attendance—Louie Spooner 1, Emily Spooner 2, Charles Allen 3. Swimming—John Fleming 1, William Skidmore 2, Albert Cass 3, William Harvey 4. Diving—John Fleming 1, Charles Smith S. After the distribution, the Chairman expressed the great regret of the Committee, parents and friends that Mr Soundy, the Head Master, was about to leave; The following presentations, accompanied by suitable addresses, were then made, to Mr Soundy:—By Eliz* N< wall, on behalf of the scholars of the main and side schools, a handsome silver fruit epergne; by James Banks, on behalf of : the Fifth and Sixth Standards, a silver toast rack; by Miss Camming, on behalf of the pupil teachers, a field gists. Mr Soundy warmly expressed his ao- ; knowledgments for the kind feeling, thus ! Bhown. Three hearty cheers were given for the Chairman and Committee. After the meeting had closed, the lady ; teachers, Mrs Camphell, Miss Roberts, Miss < Weir, and Miss Smith: presented Mis : Soundy with a case containing half a dozen , beautifully chased silver serviette rings.
