KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting was held on Tuesday evening. Present—the Mayor (Mr Moore), Crs. Kidd, Blakeley. Brighting, Humphreys, Hicks, Stanton. Letters were read from Mr C. A. Brooke re nuisance from drain near his premises. Referred to Works Committee to put in a stink trap. From Mr A. Simpson, tendering hit resignation. Accepted, and fresh election ordered. From Evreton Boad Board, stating the question of western drainage must stand over for lack of funds. The Surveyor reported asphalt crossings were progressing satisfactorily; the pound had fallen into decay; dog collars were required; and the' fireman was recovering from his illness. The report was adopted, estimates of cost of new pound to be obtained. The Finance Committee reported receipts for past fortnight to be £17 la 6d; present overdraft, .£89316s lid. Accounts £ 1313s U d were passed. Attention was drawn to an alleged tampering with foothpath of Charles street Isast. It appeared permission was given by the Works Committee to Mr Johnston to raise an embankment, which the Chairman of that Committee said did not interfere with the path- On the motion of Cr. Stantow, it was decided to ask Mr Johnston by whose authority he had ploughed the footpath and used the materulinhisembankment.Cr. Blaxzliy drew attention to the asphalt crossings* which he thought might have bean made 6ft instead of 10ft in width. He moved—"That tie crossing from Mr Champion's office to the Bank of New Zealand be 6ft, and & crossing of a like width made from the Courthouse to the Fire Brigade Station." Cr. Bipe*Tnra

seconded. The Mayor ruled notice mnst be given. Tn reply to councillors the surveyor said the crossings being made would cost £60 or £70. The motion was with-

drawn. Cr. Kidd moved, Cr. Bkighttng seconded—" 1 hat the first-named crossing be made 6ft in width." Motion negatived. The Council then adjourned.
