The Moderator took his seat at 10 o'clock,
The Maori mission report waa laid on the table, from whioh it appeared that two missionaries are engaged laboring amongst the Maoris. A desire was expressed that the congregations should contribute more liberally to this fund. An overtnre oame from the Auckland Presbytery anent the marriage with a deceased wife'B sister. After some remarks had been made thereon, the Assembly declined to move in the matter. The report of the College oommittee and Examination Board was then submitted, from which it appeared that the students had been carrying on their studies satisfactorily. Additional powers were given to the Examination Board, enabling them to receive one discourse from every student eaoh year in addition to discourses required by the Presbyteries. A special report cf the Church property committee was given in. It was agreed to remit it back to the oommittee, with the Bey. W. Gillies'name added, and with a recommendation that during the year they would send to the Presbyteries particulars of what they- would lay before the next sea-ion of Assembly. ■ The finance committee's report on Assembly expenses fund was given in, and it was resolved that the Preaby teriea Bhould see that this was more punctually attended! to, as a large number of the congregations were in arrears to this fund. A proposal for localising the Assembly at Wellington then came up, but as the majority of the returns from Presbyteries were found to disapprove, the Assembly agreed to fall from the proposal. The Assembly adjourned at 2 p.m. till 7 o'clock.
