RICOARTON.

The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday at the office, Upper Biooarton. Present—Messes Hall (chairman), Nunweek, Stanley, Boag, and Taylor. The following correspondence was read:—From Mr Baker, requesting permission to take a few loads of gravel from the Board's pit for his own use, also pointing out the necessity for the better drainage on the Fendalton road, adjoining his property. The Board granted the application for a few loads of gravel on the usual condition; and it was resolved to aek Mr Baker if he would give the strip of land opposite to his property so as to make the road a uniform width and facilitate the necessary drainage. From Mr Higbam, requesting permission to deepen a ditch on the rrontag* of B.S. 1599. The Board granted the reqcest conditionally. From Messrs William*, Helmore, Wilkin.and others, calling attention to the dilapidated condition of the Park bridge near Mr Helmore's property. The surveyor's report on this and the other Park bridge leading to Fendal on, was read, which showed that the bridges were both in a very unsafe state for ordinary traffic It was resolved to ask a deputation from the Selwyn County Council to meet one from this Board to examine the bridges and decide on the steps to be taken. From Mr Beeoe, reporting a oase of typhoid fever at his house on the Harowood road. Fcom the Colonial Secretary, in reply, advising that upon a proclamation being issued altering the boundaries of distriots, both distriots are deemed aew districts, necessitating the holding of elections for new Boards, and requesting to be furnished with the name of a suitable person to act as Returning Officer, and also a convenient polling place for the election. The Chairman stated that he had forwarded the nacesiary informa ion. From the secretary to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, forwarding statement of the reoeipte and expenditure of tbe Board for the six months ending 31st December, 1881. From Mr W.G.Walker, clerk to the Court, requesting permission on behalf of tbe Resident Magistrate to use the Bead Board office for all meetings of the licensing committee of the district. Tbe Board granted the request. From Mr G. L. Lee, re- j questing permission to use the Board's office for the purpose of holding tbe election of the licensing oommittee of tbe Avon district for the presest year. The Board granted the request. Meiers Nunweek, Taylor and Stanley, the committee appointed to examine and report on the lowering of the Sawyer's Arms road, reported having inspected it, and recommended that the road be reduced as per plan and section furnished by the surveyor, but that the gradient be lowered so as to get sufficient gravel for other works contemplated if it be found to be snitable in quality. It was resolved —" To request Mr A. Jackson to complete his order for quarry stone, or to supply a portion of it in boulders instead." Aβ directed at last meeting, the surveyor reported on the drainage at Addicgton, referred to by Ifr Babsr. The Board having considered the report, it was resolved—" To forward a copy of it to Mr Baber, referring him to the Drainage Board, and stating that this Board will recommend the Drainage Board to carry out the necessary work.' The monthly report was read, and the following resolutions were carried, via —"That the water coming down the Coal track be diverted into the' Avon head road ditch by means of {apes across the road." —"That the attention of the Government encioeer be e&Hsd to the oondition of the pipes, nj^eithAlizwonPifeoo'tßjwdrAddjniton.^—

"That the drainage «* the Sooth belt be diverted into Addington drain by mtua of SMn. pipes across the belt." "That wish a view to getting the fnil benefit of the culverts recently put across the workshops road, the Drainage Board be respectfully requested to widen the Addington drain through the Goyernment Property." The surveyor handed in the valuation prepared in acoordanee with the Poblie Works Act of the land comprised within the road lying between 8.8. 7449 and 4326, and it was resolved that the parties interested in the title, via., Messrs Donald, Delo and Bramley be requested to meet the Board at its next meeting, with a view to arranging about the title. The Board took into consideration the report on the works neeetsary to be carried out before winter, and it was resolved to invite tenders for those decided upon, one half returnable in fourteen days from date, and the balance at the next ordinary meeting of the Board on the 13th Maroh.
