THE S.S. NORFOLK.
Tha "Daily News" of October 22nd says:— Messrs Money "Wieram and Son's new steamship Norfolk, Captain J. Pyne CaUaghan—the latest ftohieTement of Thames ship-bnildinp—has steamed into Plymouth Soona with nearly 400 Australasian emigrants on board, and a full cargo. Much interest had been felt in the first sea trip of this fine ship, and it is highly satisfactory to learn that the run from the Sore, where the Norfolk anchored on Monday night, to Plymouth was performed with great success, the yessel steaming -with unusual steadiness, in the face of a light head treeze, at an average speed of more than twelve knots throughout. There was quite a scientiflo gathering on board, Messrs Charles and Clifford TJViar&in (the owners), Mr Joseph Green (the builder), and Mr Hnmphrys Ohe constructor of the engines and machinery), ell feeling sufficient interest in her sncoass to come round in the ship from Gravesend. The passengers, of whom there were nearly seventy, first-class, were unanimous in their commendation of the great steadiness of the ship and the remarkable comfort afforded by ler excellent accommodation. The Norfolk sailed with the liveliest hopes of her commander. Captain CaHaghan—who, although a young man, has been twenty years in Messrs ■Wlgram's employment— that he shall be able to make a most admirable passage to Melbourne. in his noble ship. The emigrants oa board are of a superior class, and amongst those who hail from the sister isle is an Irish landowner, with his wile and growa-ap family of three sons and three daughters, who, in Tiewof Mr FarnelTs mischievous folly, is op. his way to Kew Zealand to invest his remaining &Q.OOO of capital. The live stock in the Norfolk, including half-a-dozen shorthorn bullocks for consumption during the voyage, would stock a email farm. ; :
