Monday, August 19. [Before C. Whitefoord, E*q., R.M.] Bobough Bt iaws.—J. Allen, who had been charged with leaving a horse tethered on a street, having left the district, the case wa» withdrawn. A. Gillis, for having a goat tethered so as to encroach on Feraki street, was cautioned. W. McDonald was charged with Betting fire to rubbish without giving notice. It was shown tho fire was lighted by another person. Case dismissed. R. Woodford, for a similar offence, was fined ss. R. Wilson, for alljwing a horse at large, was fined ss. Damaging Public Pbopestt.—J- Armstrong was charged with destroying notice boards, declaring a road in the Eyreton district to be closed for repairs. A medical certificate showed accused was unable to attend Case ndj mrned. Publio-housb Obdinaxcb. -B. Monk, jun , lio.-nsee Kaikanui hotel, was charged with supplying drink during prohibited hourp, ou the 13th August. Constable Johnston s.iid tbat at 1130, hearing a nouc in Lhe hi-tel, ha secreted hinnelf cuUido, and heard that the game of Yankee grab was being played. On going inside, he saw R Nisbct with a glass of hot grog bjfore him. Nisbet and a ruan named George were calied for the defence, who stated that ro dice were thrown. Accused said he was waiting for 'he re'urn of s.me horses which the fire brigade had the use of, and Ni bet came in. The magistrate considered the charge of gambling not proved, but *.« the supplying drink was admitted, and it. did tiot Bpre*r to be v*>rvserious, the lowest peital'y of £2 would be inflicted. Civil Cases —W. H. Burton v. H. Henry, cliiru £4 Oi 8d ; judgment summons; part having been paid, the case was adjourned. -
