Just one week after the Agricultural ant Pastoral Association Show of 1871, the Hon Wm . Robinson, came to my Farm to see mj Imported Leicester Rams. On coming up t< the sheep in the paddock, the three Importec Rams were standing singly and distinctly from each other. After viewing them. Mi Robinson turning to mc, asked the question Supposing those Ewes were yours (meaning the Ewes he had bought from the flocks o Messrs Lewis, Whincop, the Hon. E. Grey and others), which of these rams would yoi use ? I replied, at the same time pointinf to the middle sheep of the three, which wa the "Duke": That one 1 Mr Robinsoi said, " But that is not the ram which gainec the first prize?" I replied, "No." Thei pointing to the sheep on the right whicl was "Jock," I said, " That was the one." : caught him, and after we had examined him Mr Robinson said, he would have his Ewe | put to him (Jock). ' Mr Robinson asked mc what I would tak< 1 for the hire of the sheep for 50 Ewes? told him, I would not let the ram out of m] own hands, but I would take his Ewee charging 10s per head for service, and 2( per head per week for their feed and atten tion ; buc would not be responsible fo . deaths. Mr Robinson agreed to these terms and the Ewes were sent the week following and put to the ram he selected, and that ran was " Jock," not the " Duke." The latte having served all my own Leicester Ewe but six, Mr Threlkeld sent seven to him and the last Show told the result of hi work. At this time, my Brother had charge of thi . flock, and I have no doubt, were anyon anxious to make inquiries of him in thi ' matter, he would testify (impartially) as t the correctness or incorrectness of my state ment.
