COURTENAY.

The Board met at the office, White's Accommodation House, Courtenay, on Thursday, April 10th. Present —Hon. Col. Brett, Messrs Coutts, Gough, and White. The letters addressed to tho Road Boards and to the Returning 0(-QerB, informing them of the appointments, were, in accordance with the .regulation made under the provisions of the Executive Government Ordinance, 1864, signed by myself as Secretary for Public Works, but the warrant of appointment was' signed in Executive Council, by hir Honor the; Superintendent." —(Signed) W. Kennaway. ~ The Surveyor was directed to write and enquire from the owner of section No. 9098, if he would be prepared to part with, and if bo, at what price, sufficient land to form a road enabling children to get to the Greendale school from Mangin's, Adams', Martin's and those living near thp Hawkins river. In answer to a letter from the Secretary for Publio Works, the surveyor was directed to write in reply, that the Board would suggest laying out » : Wad < from Gillander's section,, on ...the Hawkins, to the junction of the railway at reserve, N,o. 1512. Also one through reserve No. 1249 at West; Melton to connect Bealey and Halkett road. The surveyor was directed to call for tenders for forminc; 1 _ miles Bealey track, from Truscott's to Walker's ; also one milo Halkett road, from end of formation by Buxton's, going westerly. , • The Board then proceeded to the bank of the Waimakariri, and ~eia met by deputations at two places, pointing out where a road was wanted down the banks, to enable the residents round to get.., water and driftwood from the river, After, a lengthy inspection the Boatd adjourned tb Monday, 12th May.
