ELLESMERE PLOUGHING MATCH.
A meeting was held at Mr Loe's Hotel, Leeston, Wednesday, July 5, 1871. to initiate a ploughing, match for" the Ellesmere district, when the following gentlemen were enrolled as a committee :—Messrs John Smith, John Rennie, R. Gillett, W. Graham, D. Muirhead. W. Bishop, J. Loe, W. Woodman, A. Frankish, G. Sandrey, A. Storry, W. G. Bluett, J. J. Loe, G. Hepworth, J. Rogers, J. Manspn, H. Washbourne, C. Withell, J. Dilloway, W. Chamberline, S. Lemmon. D. Marshall, T. Dodd, Williams Brothers, C.J. Bridge, R. Lockhead. H. H. Cholmondeley, H. D. Gardiner, J. Blackler.
It was proposed by Mr Lawrence, seconded by Mr Frankish—" That Mr Gillett be requested to act as secretary and treasurer for the 'ensuing ploughing match," which was carried.
The following gentlemen were elected a sub-committee for laving out the ground and acting as' stewards on the day of meeting : Messrs Eennie, J. Smith. G. Hepworth, D. Moorhead, W. Bishop, W. Graham, G. B. Woodman. The judges to be asked to act are: —Messrs G. Duncan, J. Moffatt, G. Dalton, C. Newton, "W. Todd. It was resolved
—" That Wednesday, August 2nd, be named as the day ot the match, and that the choice of ground be left to the sub-committee." After adopting rules for the guidance of the match, the meeting separated.
