: The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.
_ A letter was read, from Mr F. H. M. t •I^ 1 "',? 8 chair ™an of a meeting held at Leithfield, on the 12th June, forwarding the following copy of a resolution passed at that meeting:—'«■ Proposed .by Mr Randall Woodhouse, seconded by Mr Jos. Russell, that in refusing to remove. the office to a central i position in Leithfield. • tie- Board has on beliaif of a section, sacrificed the interests of the district as a whole, having regard to the facts which have been brought before this meeting, showing the general incompetency of the present Board, the members thereof be requested to resign." It was proposed by Mr Chas. Hiatt, and seconded r byj Mr--.Duncan, Gamebon, and carried unanimously, "That the Bbardhaving taken into consideration all matters connected with the meeting of ratepayers held at this office on June 3rd, and also the meeting held at Leithfield on June 12. see no reason to accede to,the request contained in the' above resolution/ . The .Surveyor was instructed to forward a copy of the above resolution to Mr F. H. M. Walker, as chairman of the Leithfield meeting. The Chairman informed the Board that he had accepted the tender pf Messrs Benn | and'"Walker for the right of cutting flax on the roads in the district, for the sum of £10; the £10 to be paid on the sale note being signed by the Chairman. I
A letter was read from Mr Hogg, requesting the Board to replace the dam near his ho'ise on the Eangiora and Sefton road, which > has lately been washed away. The Surveyor was instructed to have it replaced. The Board directed the Surveyor to procure another 100 ft. of Bin. drain pipes. The Surveyor was instructed to give notice to Mr Ashby, that unless the obstructions placed by him in the water-courses crossing and bounding his land were removed within a week, an information will be laid against him in the Magistrate's Court, by the provisions of the 17th Clause of the Road's Ordinance, 1869.
A letter was read from Mr 11. Waitt, offering to dedicate to the public the road running from the North road to the Amesbury road, on condition that he was put to no expense in the matter.
The Surveyor was instructed to get the cuttings at Down's made, if he could get them dpnefor, £3; if otherwise, that he should call for tenders.
The Board decided that the Surveyor should be allowed to expend a sum not exceeding £30 in repairing holes and dangerous places in the roads of the district,-especially the Mount Grey road/Leithfield; the Terrace road, the Railway Reserve road, and on any others he might think most urgently in need of repair, the Board not considering it expedient to spend, money in-the formation of roads at this season of the year.
It was decided that a bonus of £30 should be given to the Surveyor in consideration of the extra work entailed upon him by the Ashley bridge and other works.
The resolntion of the meeting of ratepayers was considered with reference to the increase of salary to the Surveyor; the Board decided that having fgiven r the bonus for extra works; the consideration of the increase of salary should be deferred to a future meeting.
The pay sheet amounted to £551 4s Id, was passed. i
