VICTORIAN GRAIN REPORT.
The Argus of the 26th ult., reports:—The utmost cliilnes continues to pervade the market for breadstufEs. Flour, more especially, may be said to be perfectly unsaleable. As the' -week commenced our quotations stood at £16 10s to £16 15s for Adelaide, and Melbourne millers quoted up to £17. but only the most trifling lots could be got rid of at these quotations. Subsequently, we could not quote over £16 10s, but though this quotation was objected to, we are aware of offers to.purchase having been made for large lines at a shade under.' Until the market, therefore, assumes a more denned we "feel justified in retaining the quotation. On Wednesday a parcel of Dawson's was! quitted @ £16 15s, and Wilson's Mount Gambiersold® £15 17s 6d, while Tasmanian was placed @ £14 15s. To-day further sales are recorded. Holders of Adelaide wheat were firm @ 7/6. As the week progressed, however,7/4 net was accepted for a parcel, and of late a few small lots met with purchasers @7/4, 7/5, aud .7/6. Importers being dissatisfied with the turn the market has recently taken, the numerons parcels of New-Zealand to hand have been stored in the meantime. Notwithstanding which, however, occasional sales are reported at 6/0. For Port MacDonnell we quote 7/2 to 7/3. - The contrast in the readiness with which purchases of wheat are made ascompared with flour is very great, aud it is really astonishing that so much difficulty is experienced in selling the one as compared with the other. Oats have, improved, and a good deal of business- would be done in the market were prime milling, which are very scarce, in more abundant supply; for such, 3/8 i can readily be got. On Tuesday a parcel of 400 bags, a. fair sample, was placed at 3/7. Under the hammer 2500 bushels Tasmanian were quitted at 3/5 to An inferior shipment of 3000 bushels was also got rid of at the low price of 2/9. During the remainder of the week a few small parcel? have been disposed of @ 3/4 for low to 3/6 for ordinary, and 3/8£ for fine. New Zealand barley was sold by auction on Tuesday @ 3/2 to 3/4, and 3500 bushels were at same time placed at 2/9. Malting barley is not so much inquired for ;we quote 4/to 4/3. Maize has been in moderate trade request at 3/9$ to 3/10 for good and prime quality; inferior sorts have been selling at less money. New Zealand oatmeal was quitted at auction at £18. For : colonial • Vjctprian made millers ask'£2l to £22. Sales of pearl barley are -reported at £19 sss. Bran has been sellincrat 0/12 J. .Pollard is now quoted at 1/2 to 1/4, a figure which shows.a slightly easier feeling.
