Mellisb, Esq., R.M.] Wife Desertion.-~ Oarneli is Donovan was brought up in charge of the police, on remand from Temuka, where he was arrested, on a charge of having deserted his wife ahd family, living at Kaiapoi, since October last. 1 Ha made no defence, i When arrested he had on his person £5 65.., His Worship ordered' him to. pay 15s weekly towards the support of his family, payment for three weeks in advance, and 30s paid to -his family from the Charitable Aid Fund, to be deducted from the amount in his possession, leaving" him sufficient to return to a road contract he was working at near Temsika. Cattle at Large.—James Baker, the ovmerpf. fqi_r Headof cattle found straying on a public road, was charged with that ofience. Defendant pleaded that they were not sti-aying within the town, and that he was not _ware he could be prosecuted for their straying on to any other roads.
