BAY OF PLENTY BEACON Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. WEDNESDAY, OCT. 25, 1950 SERVICE FINISHES
In the history of a district, 33 years is a short time. In a man s life it is a long time. Dr F. J. Appleby gave 33 years of devoted service to the Whakatane district and the district gave him only his due at its farewell to him on Wednesday. There must be some satisfaction to Dr Appleby in knowing that his years of work have been appreciated. He has seen this district grow. After travelling its roads on horseback, fording its streams and doing his work without ambulance or hospital, he sees his medical successors giving, in their different way, service under modern conditions.
He has the satisfaction of knowing that he has contributed his share to the welfare and progress of Whakatane town and district.
