Whakatane Second In Primary Schools ’ Rugby Tournament
Whakatane were runners-up, in the Bay of Plenty primary schools’ annual Rugby tournament, which concluded at Opotiki yesterday, and so win the Laurence Boyntop, Shield. They scored five points, two behind the winners, Opotiki and Te Puke, who become joint holders of the Tai Mitchell Shield.
Rangitaiki and Tauranga were next with four points/ and Rotorua last with three. Detailed scores:—
Tuesday: Te Puke 8 v Whakatane 6, Opotiki 8 v Rangitaiki 0, Tauranga 0 v Rotorua 0. Wednesday: Tauranga 0v Te Puke 0, Opotiki 5 v Whakatane 5, Rangitaiki 9 v Rotorua 0. Afternoon: Rotorua 3 v Te Puke 3, Whakatane 5 v Rangitaiki 3, Opotiki 8 v Tauranga 3.
Thursday: Te Puke 5 v Rangitaiki 3, Rotorua 0 v Opotiki 0, Tauranga 6 v Whakatane 5. Afternoon: Rangitaiki 9 v Tauranga 6, Whakatane 6 v Rotorua 3, Opotiki 0 v Te Puke 0.
