Thornton Team Is Selected For Y.F.C. Rugby Tournament
A football team for the seven-a-side Young Farmers’ Club’s King’s Birthday rugby tournament at Taneatua was selected and preliminary arrangements were made for the IYA recording unit’s tour of the Thornton of. the Eastern Bay at the monthly meeting of the Thornton Young Farmers’ Club held on Monday night. The 16 members present received reports on the YfF.C. porker and baconer competition, the district debating final in Whakatane in which the club was successful, and on the District Committee meeting held several days previously. Final arrangements were also made for ihe Y.F.C. second annual ball.
A special programme committee was set ip to be responsible for the smooth running of the club’s programme for the ensuing year. It was decided to make this month’s field day a visit to the dried buttermilk factory at Edgecumbe.
The football team selected: •P. Heikell, B. Newton, I. Law, J. Mexted, G. Walker, G. Adams, L. Broadmore, D. Jones.
