CRICKET

PAROA v EDGECUMBE In a competition cricket match played on the Whakatane Domain at the weekend Paroa scored a first innings victory. Paroa batted opening with H. Grant and Martin who pu't on 27 runs before Martin was bowled. The next three wickets fell cheaply and Paroa had 5 wickets down for 40 runs. H. Grant played a very useful innings of -20 before being dismissed. The only other batsmen to score double figures was C. Smith who set about the bowling and was not out for 37 when Paroa's las't wicket fell. The main wicket takers were Scott 3 for 25; Campbell 2 i'or 18 and Laurie 3 for 31. Edgeeumbe opened after lunch with Ducker and Campbell who put 23 runs on'the board before they were separated. However things did not go too well for the only batsmen to score double figures being Ducker 10 and Porter 11. This side which batted two short was all out for 47 runs.
