YOUNG MAORI FARMERS j PARTY VISITS SCHEME j i A psarty of 20 young Maori farmer.* I from Horohoro under the leadership | of Mr ekler of the Arawa tribe. | visited Ruatoki under the auspices of the New Zealand Young Farmers' | Clubs last Sunday, They were the j guests of the Ruatoki people and | stayed at the home of Mr and Mrs Powhare. 1 hey were taken round the different farms by Mr J. Meritt and were very much impressed with what they saw and the advances thin, have been made in farming in the Ruatoki scheme. NEED FOR UNITY In the evening greetings were exchanged between, the party and the Ruatoki people. Comments were made on farming in general amopg the Maoris under the development : schemes. The question of unity among the Maori farmers in conjunction with the New Zealand Farmers' Union was stressed by a, number of speakers. The need for uniformity of treatment and of carrying out the farming activities by the heads of tho different schemes was also stressed by many .speakers. On the whole the visit was one of educational value to the visitors and much enjoyed by them, and Mi J. Merritt was thanked by the party for taking them round. They left on Monday morning Kaha on their way to Wairoa, The party are "U young men from the Ngati-Kahungunu tribe from Woi roa, and have been settled on the Horohoro scheme since its inception in 1929. There is no doubt that the Maor» farmers are realising the educational value of these tours through inspecting the different farming areas, and are taking every chance to do go. For that reason 12 young Maori farmers from Ruatoki will be going ~o the Government's Ruakui'a farm in July for a ten days course in dairy, farming instruction. MEETINGHOUSE OPENING BIG RUATOKI CEREMONY Preparations are now well on tho wry with regard to the official opening of a meetinghouse erected .ft Otenuku Ruatoki.
