ERNEST BLOCH HAS GOOD FOLLOWING
LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA RECITAL
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, under Furtwangler, can count on an eager reception when it returns to London after a year’s interval to give five concerts between September 2S and October 6. Hard on its heels come the “regulars”: the London Symphony Orchestra’s Sunday afternoon concerts start on October 9, and on October 13 the London Philharmonic Orchestra opens its season with a programme of Ernest Bloch, conducted by the composer. Swiss by birth; American by adoption, and Jewish in much of his inspiration, Bloch had a considerable following in Britain before the war.
Will this concert —coupled with such other events as the world premiere of his piano concerto at the Edinburgh Festival—re-kindle the ardour?
