Anchorage Congestion In Tauranga
Deputation From Yacht Club Congestion at the protected anchorage, the size of moorings and other points affecting yachting at Tauranga were discussed when a deputation was received from the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club, reported the foreman of the Tauranga Harbour Board (Mr C. M. F. Hayman) to the monthly meeting at the board. The main difficulty from his viewpoint, explained Mr Hayman, was 'he difference in the size of boats in the area and the relative size ot the moorings required. “There is no indication,” he said, “from the surface, whether a mooring is large or small. A 12-foot vessel requires only a light chain and block. If it is vacant,, it has not been uncommon tor a launch 32 f eet or more to tie up to a mooring intended for a 12-foot boat.” He considered this to be where (he trouble started and adverse criticism was made of the harbour board’s supervision ot mooring places. It could be avoided, he added, by permission being obtained from the owners of the moorings. It was not always possible to place the small boats in shallow water.
