King Country Mill Destroyed
£BOOO Fire Damage At Manunui
(P.A.) Taumaranui, April 6 The Ellis Veneer Company's sawmill and plant at Mananui, four miles from Taumaranui, were destroyed by fire at 2 o'clock this morning, the damage being estimated at over £BOOO. The sawmill had an output of 11,000 ft of sawn timber a day. The Mananui and Taumaranui fire brigades, which were called promptly to the scene by sirens in both places, saved the company's large veneer works and offices in another building. The fire was discovered by a mghtwatchman, Mr F. Berg, and two members of the night shift assisted him in an attemnt to sto 1 -" the flames from spreading. Many people motored to the scene. Only eight men were employed in the sawmill, and they will be absorbed in the company's other works. There was no sawn timber at the mill. The building and plant were insured. '
