PURPOSE OF SPECIAL ENVOYS

BRITISH SECRETARY IN INDIA BENEFIT OF PERSONAL CONTACTS London, March 16. The Under-Secretary for Commonwealth Relations, Mr Gordon Walker, said in Karachi today thai he and the three other special envoys visiting the British Commonwealth, were discussing matters arising from last October's Commonwealth conference in London.

He agreed that it was unusual for four senior Government officials to leave London at the same time but denied that the spread of Communism had anything to do with it. He said that although consultations within the Commonwealth were always developing, it was thought that personal contact might be more practical than telegrams. Tomorrow Mr Gordon Walker, is going to Ceylon-for about a week. At the end of the month he intends to spend a few days in Delhi, and he may revisit Karachi on his way home in April
