MANDALAY FALLS TO REBELS

KARENS AND COMMUNISTS JOIN HANDS

London, March 16

A Burma Government communique tonight said that Communist and Karen rebels had joined hands at Mandalay and were now in complete control of the city. A Burma Government spokesman is reported as saying earlier today that Government troops were still holding out in a part of Mandalay. Tonight's communique reported fighting whh the Karens in the Irrawaddy delta. The Karens fired on naval boats and other river craft, but the communique says thev were beaten back and suffered 20C casualties.
