WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

ANNUAL MEETING AT . GATE PA The annual meeting of the Gate Pa Women’s Institute was held in the Church Hall, Mrs Pemberton presiding. The guest speaker, Mrs McNaughton, gave a very interesting talk on Institute work, and also outlined the work done at the Palmerston North refresher course. Members were very-interested in a number of beautiful calendars sent to Mrs McNaughton from Institutes in England.

Mrs Pemberton was re-elected President, the committee being Mesdames Pemberton (President), Gibb (vice-president), Soland (secretary), Thompson (treasurer), Wilson, Hodder, Pettman, Mowatt and Andrews. The roll call, sketching the president, caused great amusement. The flowers and points competition for the year was won by Mrs W. Ridder. The results of the competitions for the day were: Large bloom, Mrs Redshaw 1, Mrs Gibb 2; small bloom. Mesdames Wilson, Ridder and Gibb equal 1, Mrs Thompson 2; jar of flowers, Mrs Gibb 1, Mrs Thompson 2. Mrs Soland read a very interesting report on the year’s work. A shoulder spray was presented to the 'president by Mrs Gibb, on behalf of all the members. Afternoon tea was served by. the hostesses.
