Breach Of Peace Order
UNO View Of Palestine Moves
Israeli Garrison Near Akaba
London, March 14,
The acting Palestine Mediator, Dr Bundle, after receiving reports from his observers on the situation in the Eastern Nege’ r , has told Israel and Transjordan that any military activity there must be regarded as a breach of the Security Council’s Peace Order. He said this would apply whether there was actual fighting or not. Dr Bundle said his observers had reported that on the day before the signing of the Israeli-Transjordan cease-fire agreement Israeli forces set up a small garrison near the rmif r.f Akaba within the borders of Palestine. Th r> onlv movement renorted into the Transjordan side of the Gulf of was by a number of refugees. The only report of fighting, said Dr Bundle, was an exchange of fire between Arab legPnaires and Israeli troops north of Akaba. The Israeli representative in London called at the Foreign Office and dictated the orders whi’di had been given to the forces in Akaba. It is learned at the Foreign Office that these orders were made known to Israel to avoid the danger of possible incidents.
