The annual inter - club match between City-Albion (Rotorua) anri the Tauranga Cricket Club was played on the Domain during the weekend and resulted in a comfortable victory for the home team" ■Winning the toss, Tauranga sent City-Albion in to bat and the visitors were soon in trouble. B. Budd' .Tauranga’s opening bowler, secured a wicket with his first and fourth balls in his first over.
With'the exception of the visiting captain, H. Craig, who scored 28 runs and Ludgate (18), the remaining batsmen were dismissed cheaply the last wicket falling just beioro the luncheon adjournment with the total at 69. Bowling for Tauranga Budd secured five wickets for seven runs, L. Brewer secured two fo r four and G. Sutherland captured two for 14.
The Tauranga batsmen experienced little difficulty in passing City-Albion’s total and 157 runs had been compiled when the innings closed. A good first-wicket stand by ,G. Sutherland and W. Ellis carried the total from nine to 79 before Ellis was run out after scoring 32. Sutherland was also run out not long afterwards after contributing a sound 48. E. Beer was undefeated with 30 runs to his credit. Bowling honours for City-Albion were shared by Waters, C. Simmers and Bolons who each secured two wickets for 28, 39 and 12 runs respective’y. Batting half an hour each in the second innings, City-Albion scored 67 runs fcr seven wickets in their spell at the batting crease and Tau j ranga, due mainly to some big hitting by Budd, Dashwood, Brewer and Gallagher, scored 115 for seven in their 30-minute batting spell. Budd hit 27 runs off one over from Bolons, inluding three sixes and two fours.
