SHEEP DOG TRIALS AT TE PUNA

FOURTH ANNUAL EVENT ATTRACTS MANY ENTRIES COMPETITORS PRESENT FROM FAR AFIELD (Times Correspondent)

In spite of inclement weather on the second and third days, the dog trials held at Te Puna proved an outstanding success. The untiring work of the officials and the close co-operation of competiticrs enabled the large number of entries to be completed in the three days. The judge, Mr Emerin, of Mokauiti, commented favourably on the work. Although the course was on the light side, there appeared to be enough pitfalls to test both dog and man’s ability. In each event the 10 first-placed dogs were all very c'ose in points.

Competitors were present from far afield. Mr Craig cames from Takapu, Hawke’s Bay, and others came from Otorohanga, Te Kuiti, Te Awamutu, Cambridge Rotorua, Morrinsville, Te Aroha, Glen Murray, Waitoa, Waiuku, Pukeatua, Rangiriri and Mercer. Detailed results were as follows:

Long Head (open): M. Marsden’s. (Waiuku) Beth 47 £ points 1; A. Perrott’s (Pukeatua) Dick 46 i, 2; H. Burr’s (Te Puna) Moss 46, 3..

Long Head (maiden): B. Elli's’s (Otorohanga) Don, 45 points, 1; W. J. Craig’s (Takapu) Roy, 44. 2; J. Anderson’s (Katikati) King, 42, 3. Short Head (open): A. Perrott’s (Pukeatua) Flame, 56i points, 1; M. Morrison’s (Wangamarino) Toy, 55 ; ', 2; G. Jchnston’s (Waiuku) Tip, 541, 3; five dogs tied for fourth place in this' event. Short Head (maiden): A. Palmer’s (Tauranga) King, 55 points, 1; B. Ellis’s (Otorohanga) Don, and W. Reynold’s (Pukeatua) Moss, 54, eoual 2; W. Reynold’s (Pukeatua) Chip, 53, 3. There were 57 entries in this event.

Huntaway (open): W. Craig’s (Takapu) entrv, 41 points, 1; H. Pamment’s (Katikati) entry, 391 points, 2; H. Burr’s (Te Puna) entry, 38, 3.
