WELCOME TO BEVIN

CIVIC RECEPTION IN NEW YORK t APPEAL MADE FOR CLOSER TIES London, Nov. 7. New York gave- a civic reception to-day to the British Foreign Secretary, Mr Bevin. Cheering crowds lined the streets as he drove to the City Hall. In an appeal for closer ties between Britain and the United States he said both countries were fired with the same ideas and had the same determination to secure peace in the world. The war had left Britain with many complex problems but he was proud that in the past year we had made greater strides in the extension of liberty than in any period of our history.
