Field-Marshal • Viscount Montgomery, speaking at a Newspaper Press Fund dinner, stated that during the war he id'id not experience a single attempt by a war correspondent to send back news which would have endangered security or cost lives.
Paying a tribute to the work of the Press during the war, Lord Montgomery ‘mid that no truly democratic (nation could function without a free Press and .enlightened public opinion. No one wanted to see either a controlled Press or the 'elimination of free journalistic enterprise.
