THE NEW SCHOOL COMMITTEE
LARGE MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS (From Our Correspondent) What was perhaps the largest gathering of householders was held at the school on Wednesday evening, when the election of the new school committee took place. Mr R. Stevenson was appointed chairman of the meeting, and after thanking all for their attendance, briefly spoke on events that had taken place during the past two years.
The purchase of the A. and P. Association property, the formation of the Ex-Pupils' Association, the school jubilee, the extension of the bus service and the satisfactory results achieved to build the new high school were some of the points brought forward by Mr Stevenson. It was also hoped to form a Parents' Association and the chairman called upon the headmaster (Mr Cook) to address the gathering. Mr Cook explained the objects of a Parents' Association, and urged the gathering to give the idea sound thought. Mr Stevenson stated that as no new nominations had been received, the following were the new committee: —
Mrs Keys, Messrs. Crowley, Rob-
ertson, Searle, Stevenson, Mitchell, Whitehead, Williams and Fordyce. At a meeting of the newly-elected committee held later, Mr Stevenson was appointed chairman and Mr R. Downes secretary.
The chairman spoke of the visit of the Auckland Education Board's architect, and the satisfactory results achieved. The new high school, it was expected, would be shortly underway and the contract was in the hands of Messrs. Boon and Sullivan, of Whakatane.
It was decided to continue holding the school, committee meetings on the second Monday in every month. The visiting committee for May will be Messrs. Stevenson and Searle.
