AMERICAN TORNADO

New York, April 16. A tornado caused extensive damage when it struck the States of Georgia and South Carolina last night. Many buildings were demolished, 34 persons killed and 304 injured, a number critically. Flattened power lines are hampering rescue efforts. Doctors and nurses are working by candlelight in temporary hospitals. Highways and railways are blocked by trees and other debris.
