Widespread Raids on Enemy Bases

London, April 14

More than 200 Allied heavy and medium bombers have struck again at the Japanese base of Hollandia in Dutch New Guinea.

Airfields were damaged, and camps and buildings set on fire. The force of 20 Japanese fighters which came up in an effort to stop our bombers were badly mauled, eight being shot down and 10 badly damaged. Further raids have also been carried out on the Japanese bases of Wewak and Madang.

Allied aircraft have also been active in the Solomons, and Rabaul has also come in for another pasting. Targets in Portuguese Timor were also bombed.
