HARVEST LABOUR

350,000 WHEAT CROP

Christchurch, Nov. 18

An immediate survey of manpower to meet harvest requirements foi 350,000 acres of wheat was urged at a conference of Canterbury primary production councils at Ashburton. The survey was urged so that the relationship between army and production needs could be co-ordinated. Grave concern was expressed at the conference over the serious depletion of farm labour, which, it was stated, was below essential needs. The president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr W. W. Mu-lholland, and Mr A. J. Davey were appointed to place the whole position before the Minister of Primary Production for War Purposes, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, and the National Council of Primary Production.
