TRAFFIC IN SKY

EVERY MOVEMENT KNOWN

AUSTRALIA'S SECRET ROOMS

Sydney, Nov. 15

Strategically placed throughout Australia are dozens of secret rooms where the movement of every aircraft in Australia it noted and plotted, so that at headquarters a complete picture of Australia's sky traffic is presented.

A Royal Australian Air Force officer said in Melbourne that to such, a pitch of perfection had the system been brought that it was improbable that enemy planes could penetrate the outside watch without headquarters being aware of it. This was the system which, linked with the A.R.P. organisation, enabled Australians to sleep peacefully in their beds at night.

If circumstanaees demanded it, the system would send out fighters into the sky to intercept the enemy, and would enable Australians to leave their beds or workshops in ample time to take shelter.

On land the nerves of the system were the network of Volunteer Air Observer Corps posts which, ensured that warnings of planes were flashed to the R.A.A.F. At these posts all air movements were reported, whether the aircraft were recognised or not.
