SUMMER BLOOMS
FLOWER SHOW
Lyceum Club Effort
Decorative Classes Make
Fine Display
The westerly winds of the past three or four weeks have made things very difficult for gardners, and the display of flowers at the summer show held at the Lyceum Club last Friday was not as good as at the spring show. However, there were fairly good entries, especially in the decorative section, and one or two displays not entered for competition were very attractive, these including some lovely spikes of delphiniums grown by Mr G. Tebbs, some cactus blooms from Miss Norris’ garden, and quite a few shrubs. As before, the members of the gardening circle undertook the arrangements under the direction of the secretary of the circle (Mrs Pitt Butts), and everything went off very well. The judges were Mr R. G. Crawford and Mr Tebbs, Mrs V. J. Scantlebury and Mrs Cameron Smith judging the decorative section. The Mayor (Mr L. R. Wilkinson) was introduced by the president of the club (Mrs A. W. Mouat), and performed the opening ceremony at 2 o’clock, Mrs Meikle read out the list of successful exhibitors and Mrs F. W. Doidge presented the prizes. The winning posy was given to Mrs Doidge in honour of the occasion.
