JAPAN'S ATTITUDE
OCCUPATION OF NEW ZEALAND NO BENEFIT TO GREATER EAST ASIA London, Nov. 4. The mere occupation of Australia and New Zealand by Japan would not benefit the Greater East Asia coprosperity sphere, said the Berlin radio, quoting the Nanking magazine China Leader, which is sponsored oy Japan. Japan's determination to deal with Australia and New Zealand, says the magazine, should be governed by thre principles. Firstly, elimination of the dominating British and American influence; secondly, genuine co-operation in mutual interest; thirdly, Australia and New Zealand should be permitted to cooperate in the mutual co-prosperity sphere while preserving their own characteristics Australians and New Zealanders will always try to rise agair.'St Japan unless these principles are made the basis of post-war re'alions with Japan. Australia and New Zealand. although situated in the South Seas. cannot be compared with the Philippines, the Dutch. East Indie?, Malaya and Burma, because Australia and New Zealand are inhabited by white people who have never experienced foreign invasion and foreign rule. Japan obviously must take the lead * for common benefit in the economic development of Australia. Australia and New Zealand would provide Japan with living space for her surplus population, while Australians and New Zealanders .would derive the greatest economic advantages from the settlement of the Japanese surplus in their territories.
