CO-OPERATION WITH GERMANY
LAVAL LOSING NO TIME COMBING OUT BEGINS AVIIOLESALE SACKINGS London, April 22 M. Laval has made rapid Progress in the reorganisation of France to co-operate with Germany. One of his first acts was to sack the Attorney-General of the French police who arrested him in 19 40. He is also having a comb out of the police and the information and propaganda services. Prefects concerned with local administration are also being given the once over. Admiral Leahy, U.S. Ambassador to Vichy, leaves for America at the beginning of May. Three more members of the French Embassy and the consular staff in Washington have resigned as a protest against the appointment of Laval.
One of them said "The Laval government does not represent the will of the French people. He is just a German agent." The people of unoccupied Fitince are facing the prospect of six breadless weeks. Free French headquarters have ascertained that in the raid on the Renault factory near Paris onethird of the works were destroyed, one-third extensively damaged and the remainer is likely to be of no use for some time to come.
