OUR Daily Features
Extracts taken from the Bay of Plenty Times of fifty years ago read as follows: "Poison will be laid in the Domain after to-day, the Board finding itself compelled to adopt this action in order to protect its tenants from the damage done by geese of which a number are frequently depasteurising in the Domain to the great detriment of the herbage." "A gentleman from Cambridge came to Tauranga last week by the Kaimai track, and in his opinion the Tauranga people must be asleep, or else are totally ignorant of the possibilities of this road. At present it is no small undertaking to come
here by the route mentioned, but if it was opened for vehicles there would be a constant stream of traffic between the two places. Our friend says that it does not matter much to the Waikato people whether the road is opened or not, but it means everything to Taufanga. He thinks that the road would have been opened long ago had the Waikato people be"en in Tauranga, and vice versa." "Tauranga can boast of having secured a second prize in the great intercolonial competition organised by Messrs Yates, of seed fame. Mr J. Murphy is the successful competitor having grown 24 onions scaling 401 b. 20z., from seed obtained from the local agent, Mr J. Bodell. This result speaks volumes for the goodness of the seed, the richness of the soil and the industry of the grower." "We understand that the Tauranga Musical Society will shortly take in hand a cantata entitled "The Golden Sheaf." This should be the means of inducing the musical talent of Tauranga not already on the roll of members to join."
